Finding News and Commentary for Your MAPs

Generally, news and commentary on research about the contemporary American family is spread out across the web. An article database like EBSCOHost Academic Search Premier or a blog or social news site are all good places to locate writing on recent trends and development in family life in the United States.

When looking at articles or blog posts, keep in mind: you want something that directly refers back to a research study or real data—general commentary and personal accounts of lived experiences are not the same thing.

If your MAP article mentions a multimedia documentary or book title, try searching the UCC Library Catalog.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar will NOT allow you to read the full-text of a research piece in many cases, but can be a very useful tool to double-check the existence of a research article from limited citation information (such as when only some of the report’s authors or a partial title are provided).
